Why choose carpet for your home

The House Dustmite

Why Choose Carpet for Your Home?

With its many styles, textures and types of construction, carpet is the right choice for everyone, from first-time homeowners, to retirees, to families with kids and pets. Plus, carpet will maintain its beauty and durability for many years when it is properly chosen, installed and cleaned. Carpet actually improves indoor air quality.
Selecting the right style and fibre is key to carpet durability. Know what to look for and choose carpet that fits the traffic pattern of your household.

What to Look For….
Today’s carpet offers a wide variety of choices in style, fibre composition and colour. Gone are the days of having to select only conventional loop pile, a carpet style consisting of yarn in uncut loops. New technology can produce multilevel loop and cut-loop patterns allowing diamond, bow, pin dot or fleur-de-lis designs that “pop out” in sculptured effects.

The texture, colours and pattern of the carpet can complement or contrast with patterns of your furniture and window treatments. Using a solid colour, textured carpet is a great way to provide interest and pizzazz, without going to a multicolour, overall pattern. Textured styles also fit well with today’s active and casual lifestyles.

To select the best carpet for your home and lifestyle, you should consider:

• Carpet and Rug Construction
• Colour
• Quality and Performance Requirements
• Selecting the Right Underlay
• Insulation
• Special Considerations (Seniors, children, Pets)

Clean and Green
The products used for cleaning are equally as important as your choice of floorcoverings and The Birmingham Carpet Cleaning Company only use Woolsafe approved products which not only clean well but they are friendly to both the indoor and outdoor environments. Our commercial heap filtration vacuums help improve indoor air quality because they keep dirt and dust that is suctioned up within the machines.

Carpet helps improve indoor air quality by trapping allergens, which can be removed through proper vacuuming with industry approved equipment... Helping Improve Indoor Air Quality. Carpet can be wrongly blamed for contributing to asthma and allergy and for emitting high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Studies have shown that carpet is better at trapping allergens than hard surface, such as tile or hardwood, because carpet fibres catch particles and allergens that fall to the floor. When allergens are trapped in the carpet, they cannot circulate in the air for you to breathe. Proper cleaning with a HEPA filtration vacuum effectively sucks up the dirt and dust from the carpet, locks it in the machine and keeps it out of the air.

New carpet may also have a “new carpet smell.” Scientific studies show that new carpet is one of the lowest emitters of VOCs into the indoor environment. In fact, carpet emits less VOCs than other products such as paint. Further, these emissions clear very quickly. The low-level VOC emissions and the harmless odour from new carpet dissipate within the first 48 to 72 hours after installation — even sooner with open windows or doors.

Your carpet is effectively the filter to your home and if you keep that filter clean then your Indoor Air Quality will remain good, but if you let the filter become full then all the pollens, bacteria and pollutants that would normally be trapped by your carpet will just bounce around in the air for you to breath in, just as if you had hard floors.

Your carpets should be cleaned a minimum of every 12 months, more often if you have pets or children.
